Pelorus Shipping is an independent commercial freight and chartering brokerage for bulk, breakbulk, and industrial cargo. Every mandate is led personally by Fredrik Knutsen — the counterparty you meet on the first call is the one who negotiates your fixture.
Fredrik Knutsen is a commercial maritime executive with more than 20 years across maritime, freight, terminals, chartering, and industrial logistics. His career has run on both sides of the freight decision — buying freight for cargo interests and developing business for transportation and terminal interests — which is what lets Pelorus negotiate credibly with either side of a transaction.
That experience is commercial before it is operational: contract negotiation, business development, and getting counterparties to signature. It includes terminal strategy and infrastructure evaluation — assessing where cargo should flow, what a facility is commercially worth to a supply chain, and how a new operation should be structured.
The thread through all of it is the ability to connect the freight decision to the underlying cargo and commercial transaction. A fixture is never just a rate: it carries the margin, the delivery obligation, and the counterparty risk of the trade behind it. Pelorus negotiates freight with that whole picture in view.
Pelorus works from Houston and the U.S. Gulf Coast, with an international network built over two decades of cross-border work — connecting foreign principals to U.S. counterparties and U.S. cargo to international markets.
Discuss a live requirement directly — a cargo, a vessel, a terminal, or a market entry. You will get a straight read on whether and how Pelorus can help.
Freight rates, contracts of affreightment, terminal agreements, and commercial partnerships — negotiated to signature.
Years spent on the paying side of the freight bill: what a cargo owner needs protected, and where a fixture goes wrong.
Identifying, evaluating, and structuring terminal, storage, and transload solutions as part of the freight decision.
Chartering decisions weighed against the cargo's economics — margin, delivery terms, and counterparty risk — not just the freight market.
On the ground in the largest industrial cargo market in the United States — terminals, carriers, and cargo interests within reach.
Cross-border experience connecting foreign producers, owners, and operators with U.S. cargo, terminals, and counterparties.
Pelorus owns no vessels, terminals, trucks, or warehouses, and does not act as principal to transportation contracts. Its role in every transaction is commercial: to source, evaluate, negotiate, and coordinate on behalf of the party that engages it.
