Our Services

Brokerage is the core.
Everything else supports the transaction.

Pelorus connects cargo owners, traders, manufacturers, terminals, vessel interests, and transportation providers. We source suitable freight and terminal solutions, negotiate commercial terms, and help move transactions from opportunity through execution — for a single fixture or an ongoing program.

Freight & Chartering Brokerage

Sourcing capacity, evaluating the market, and negotiating the fixture — for bulk, breakbulk, and project cargo.

The commercial problem

A cargo needs a vessel, a barge, a terminal, or an inland connection — or a vessel needs a cargo — and the owner of the requirement doesn't have the market coverage, counterparties, or negotiating bandwidth to put the transaction together on competitive terms.

What Pelorus does
  • Sources vessels, barges, and carriers for the cargo — or cargo for the capacity
  • Supports voyage charters and contracts of affreightment
  • Evaluates the freight market and negotiates commercial terms
  • Coordinates charter-party terms between the parties
  • Sources barge, terminal, storage, rail, and inland solutions around the ocean leg
Who it is for

Cargo owners, traders, manufacturers, and importers with cargo to move — and shipowners, operators, and transportation providers looking for employment for their capacity.

How it is engaged

Transactionally, from the first fixture. Engage Pelorus for one shipment or one charter. Where the cargo recurs, the same brokerage work can continue voyage by voyage or under an ongoing arrangement.

02 — SUPPORTING SERVICE

Commercial Representation

U.S. representation for foreign producers, shipowners, operators, and industrial principals.

The commercial problem

A foreign principal has product, capacity, or capital aimed at the U.S. market — but no local commercial counterpart to develop cargo and customers, open terminal and logistics doors, and negotiate with U.S. counterparties.

What Pelorus does
  • Represents the principal commercially in the U.S. market
  • Develops cargo and customer relationships
  • Makes terminal and logistics introductions
  • Supports market entry and coordinates with local counterparties
Who it is for

Foreign producers, shipowners, operators, and industrial principals that need a commercial presence in the United States before — or instead of — building a local organization.

How it is engaged

Either basis. A single introduction or negotiation can be handled transactionally; a standing representation mandate is scoped to the principal's market objectives.

03 — SUPPORTING SERVICE

Outsourced Freight Management

Ongoing commercial oversight of a recurring freight program — without building an internal department.

The commercial problem

A company moves recurring cargo — imports, exports, or an industrial program — and the freight is significant enough to need commercial management, but not enough to justify hiring a chartering and logistics team.

What Pelorus does
  • Manages recurring freight procurement
  • Develops the freight program — contracts, counterparties, and cadence
  • Negotiates with carriers and terminals
  • Plans shipments and oversees laytime and demurrage
  • Manages commercial performance across the program
Who it is for

Cargo owners, traders, and manufacturers with recurring volumes across one or more lanes who want experienced freight capability on their side of the table.

How it is engaged

Ongoing. Freight management is a continuing engagement, scoped to the program's volume and complexity. It often begins with a single brokered shipment that proves the working relationship.

04 — SUPPORTING SERVICE

Terminal, Market Entry & Special Projects

Transaction-specific advisory where freight meets infrastructure — terminals, greenfield projects, and interim commercial structures.

The commercial problem

A principal is evaluating a terminal, entering the U.S. market with physical infrastructure, or standing up a new operation — and needs commercial evaluation, structuring, and interim capability before a permanent organization exists.

What Pelorus does
  • Identifies terminals and evaluates them commercially
  • Supports greenfield development and acquisitions
  • Structures interim commercial and operating arrangements
  • Plans transition and handover to the principal's permanent team
  • Takes on transaction-specific advisory assignments
Who it is for

Industrial principals, developers, and investors establishing or acquiring marine terminals, bulk storage, transload operations, and related industrial logistics infrastructure.

How it is engaged

Per project. Each assignment is a defined, time-bound mandate — from a single terminal evaluation to an interim operating structure that is built, stabilized, and handed over.

Discuss a Project → Interim U.S. operating mandates are described in detail under Special Projects — Interim Operations.

Scope of services. Pelorus provides commercial brokerage, chartering support, representation, and freight-management services. Regulated forwarding, customs, documentation, and transportation services may be performed by appropriately licensed counterparties when required. Pelorus is not a carrier, vessel operator, or terminal operator, and does not act as principal to transportation contracts. Company formation, immigration, engineering, tax, and legal matters are coordinated with qualified specialist advisers.
